This is the Official Unofficial development page for the Mythus Fantasy Roleplaying Game, by Gary Gygax as part of the Dangerous Journeys MultiGenre Roleplaying Game System. I'm Dave Newton, Gary's co-author. The game, although no longer in print, still has a dedicated following, including me. Many of us still love the game, and see a lot of untapped potential here. There is a lot of material that's been created over the years, including Addenda, Errata, and Miscellania that has not been gathered in one place. I aim to change that, and so with the help of a number of talented individuals, I am working to gather, edit, and produce it. And of course, this is the work of a bunch of dedicated fans who are doing all this for free - since this is not intended to infringe on the copyrights still owned by TSR and Hasbro at all.
The group I've formed is called Legacy, and we are the Official Unofficial Officials of the Dangerous Journeys MGRPG. We are committed to keeping the game true to the vision Gary Gygax and I had, over three decades ago. For now, that means clarifications and corrections, addenda and errata. There are some important things we are developing, like a standard data structure for characters that will enable transfer and filling of sheets. I know some of the others in Legacy have some ideas about what they want to do, too.
January, 2026. Mythus Complete volumes 1 & 2 are finished enough to be published, though there remain many corrections that weren't
included, and issues caught by Legacy members. There are edits and additions coming for other Dangerous Journeys material, too, such as the
Epic of Aerth, and the Mythus Bestiary. I did some digging and sifting through the dungeon and found material for what would
have been bestiary volumes 2 and 3, had Michele and I had the chance to produce it. It was still mostly in an outline stage, but I
have a feeling they may be finished after all. Don Eccles is reviewing them, and I expect it will bear fruit.
I'm still working on designing the most ambitious Mythus campaign plot I've ever created. If I were to put it in terms of published scenarios,
it would likely involve a source book and at least 10 modules. We are testing a variant for the Magick rules - so far this is a personal design,
but it could be made into something others would enjoy. Still playtesting Dalthor's Mythus II rules. I've finished development of my
automated HP Sheet (which is posted), and I'm still fine-tuning the JM's Campaign sheet,
a spreadsheet for JM tools, and developing an online
Persona Builder* - one that will allow you to create HPs and OPs, too!
The ongoing effort continues for collecting and editing all of the Castings in the game into a complete Casting Database. This is really down to correcting errors. Progress is being made, but hey - I have a job and a life, so it gets done when I have time among all the other projects I keep busy with. Anyway, that's what's happening. All the completed changes will be in the repository.
