This is the Official Unofficial development page for the Mythus Fantasy Roleplaying Game, by Gary Gygax as part of the Dangerous Journeys MultiGenre Roleplaying Game System. I'm Dave Newton, Gary's co-author. The game, although no longer in print, still has a dedicated following, including me. Many of the fans still love the game, and see a lot of untapped potential here. There is a lot of material that's been created over the years, including Addenda, Errata, and Miscellania that has not been gathered in one place. I aim to chage that, and so with the help of a number of talented individuals, I am working to gather, edit, and produce it. And of course, this is the work of a bunch of dedicated fans who are doing all this for free - since this is not intended to infringe on the copyrights still owned by TSR and Hasbro.
Because this work is to honor the legacy of Gary, the group I've formed is called Legacy, and we are sort of the Official Unofficial Officials of the Dangerous Journeys MGRPG. We are committed to keeping the game true to the vision Gary Gygax and I had, over three decades ago. For now, that means clarifications and corrections, addenda and errata. There are some things I'd like to continue to develop, like a standard methodology for rogues to do their thing: sneak-thievery, finding, removing traps, and finding the secret doors leading to the juiciest treasure. And I know some of the others in Legacy have some ideas about what they want to do, too.
May, 2025. Work continues on compiling, editing, and formatting the errata and addenda files, with the intent of creating what I am tentatively calling Mythus Complete. These updates to the Mythus core rules and Mythus Magick will eventually be combined with the existing PDF files, with hyperlinks to the endnotes. Of course, I will have to revisit Mythus 2025, to verify that none of the new material conflicts with the core rules, and truly is an extension of them. I've been slogging through pretty much whatever hits my radar, despite being involved with designing the most ambitious and intricate Mythus campaign plot I've ever created. I've finished my Development with the automated HP Sheet (which is posted), and now I'm developing a JM's Campaign sheet, and a Persona Builder - one that will allow you to create HPs and OPs, too! I have completed a two page summary on Traps & Locks, and what can happen if you are unlucky enough to botch it. (done, needs review) I also just finished a new write up on Gems. It's based on the material in the core rules, and includes tables for the game master for the likelihood of finding gems in treasure, and what their relative value is, AND the amount of magickal energy they would contain. Speaking of treasure, I plan to put those treasure tables in the back of the core rules into an Expanded Treasure Calculator, because let's face it - coming up with treasure is tedious manual work, and I feel like there are certain wrinkles missing, namely the relative strength of the opposition.
An ongoing effort is collecting all of the Castings in the game into a complete Casting Database. This is mostly complete, but the db is full of content errors (and unlike Microsoft, I admit, these are bugs, not features). Slow but definite progress is being made, but hey - I have a job and a life, so it gets done when I have time among all the other projects I keep busy with. Including gaming - I also put together a player kit for my group that just so happens to contain a variety of automated sheets full of useful reference tables & stuff like The Tome - a complete list of all the Mythus Castings, that can be used to build Known, Recallable, and Studyable Spell lists, and pick an HP's Readied Castings. The new campaign I'm starting ties into the new material that I just released this year in Mythus 2025, and is going to send them on what I hope is going to be my best story yet. In the meantime, I'm putting some touches on lists and tools for everyone, cleaning up the display pages for the db, and shuffling the site just a bit. So I hope you will bear with me.
Anyway, that's what's happening. I'll be carving out a repository for all the miscellaneous information here and on Google Drive, and I've also set up a discussion server for Legacy on Discord.
